From PAWS (Lynwood, Washington)

The Washington State Legislature will convene on January 2011 for its 105-day session. Our newly-elected legislators and incumbents will want to hear from you—the people who put them in office—about policy that impacts animals.

“You’d be surprised to find that a few citizens, taking less than a minute to e-mail or call their legislators, can literally change the course of a bill that impacts animals!” says PAWS Public Affairs Coordinator, Sylvia Moss. “Legislators always tell us they want to hear more from their constituents,” she adds.

From the Farm Sanctuary

Oliver and his companion were in the late stages of starvation when local authorities finally arrived to help them.

These tiny calves had been so severely neglected that they were barely hanging on. Tragically, Oliver’s friend died shortly after the pair was taken to an Animal Control facility. But because of your support, Farm Sanctuary (Watkins Glen, New York 14891) was able to bring Oliver to our California Shelter and nurse him to health.

The needless death of Oliver’s companion reminds us why we must always be there to rescue, speak out for, and stop the abuse of farm animals.

If you’ve already given your year-end gift — thank you. If not, please consider helping with a year-end donation to Farm Sanctuary.

Lollie and Spice are just two among thousands of animals who came to Montgomery County Humane Society (Rockville, Maryland 20850) this year and received loving care and veterinary attention. Lollie was found in a dumpster, and Spice arrived with an injured leg and jaw. Now both are healthy and in foster homes, eagerly awaiting their forever families.

Hundreds of other animals are still at the shelter, though, in urgent need of warmth and relief from people who abuse them or simply don’t care. Your year-end tax-deductible contribution will help provide food, medicine, supplies, and TLC they need today — a need that’s especially poignant at this time of year. Won’t you help?

PARL Home 4 the Holidays

During the month of December, Providence Animal Rescue League (Providence, Rhode Island 02903) is promoting their long-time residents who are still waiting for their forever homes. Any animals that will have been with PARL for two months or longer on Christmas Day will have their adoption fee reduced by 50%. About Farm Sanctuary

Farm Sanctuary is the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization. Since incorporating in 1986, Farm Sanctuary has worked to expose and stop cruel practices of the “food animal” industry through research and investigations, legal and institutional reforms, public awareness projects, youth education, and direct rescue and refuge efforts. Farm Sanctuary shelters in Watkins Glen, N.Y., and Orland, Calif., provide lifelong care for hundreds of rescued animals, who have become ambassadors for farm animals everywhere by educating visitors about the realities of factory farming.
