Proposed Bills Would Repeal or Gut Prop B; Attend the Hearing; Contact Your Legislators

At noon on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, the Missouri House Agriculture Policy Committee will hold a hearing on three bills — HB 99, HB 94, HB 131 — that will repeal or significantly change the just-passed Proposition B, the Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act.

A large turnout from Prop B supporters will show legislators they should not defy the will of the majority of Missourians. If you can’t attend, please let your representatives know how you feel.

Send a message to your legislators TODAY. If you can, please attend the meeting tomorrow.

Be a Buddy to SICSA

Saving thousands of local homeless pets in the last 36 years has been made possible for The Society For The Improvement Of Conditions For Stray Animals (Kettering, Ohio 45419) by its members. In 2010, SICSA rescued over 1,200 pets. Most of the rescued pets required more veterinary care than pets in previous years, putting a strain on SICSA’s budget. There are so many local animals that need their help. The more members SICSA has, the more pets they can save.

Buddy is just one of over 1,200 pets that received sanctuary at SICSA in 2010.
Buddy is still waiting on his forever home, visit him in Canine Corner.

Please consider becoming a member of SICSA, becoming a buddy to Buddy, and all the pets SICSA will rescue in 2011.

All $35 member patrons receive:

  • One-year subscription to Stray Thoughts newsletter
  • 2011 SICSA Calendar
  • Invitation to social and educational events
  • A tax-donation
  • Recognition in the Annual Report

Here is what your membership donation can do:

  • $35 will bottle-feed a litter of orphaned kittens for a week
  • $50 will neuter 5 male cats or one dog to prevent unwanted litters
  • $100 will get a homeless pet into a new loving home
  • $200 will provide emergency medical care to save the life of a homeless pet
  • $500 will help care for long term residents, as long as it takes, to get their forever adoptive home
  • $1,000  will rescue 50 dogs from the trauma of a puppy mill

Two hundred hens are safe and sound at Animal Place’s Rescue Ranch facility (Vacaville, California 95688).

More than 100 hens used their get out of jail free card and flocked over to Animal Place and away from the prison farm where they lived.

The farm leases land from a prison and employs inmates to care for the birds, who are raised for eggs. They were excited to give up the birds instead of slaughtering them.

Another 80 hens came from an egg farm, where they had been slated for slaughter, but now have sanctuary!
