From the Valley Animal Center

Spring has sprung – and here at the Valley Animal Center (Fresno, California 93726) that means it’s time to crack open your piggy banks and get ready for the Pennies 4 Pets fundraiser sponsored by Union Bank!

On March 19th, we’ll be kicking off another spring campaign to collect your spare change at the Woodward Park Union Bank Branch located at 1069 East Champlain Drive Fresno, CA 93720 from 9 am to 3 pm. Our volunteers will be on nearby street corners to collect your change for the shelter pets.

We’d also love for you to stop into the bank branch to see our Adorable Adoptables, and to get a copy of a fundraiser flyer for Huckleberry’s restaurant. When you present your server with a copy of our fundraiser flyer on March 19th (click here to download) – 20% of your purchase will be donated to the Valley Animal Center.

Panda Express has also offered a special for customers who visit their 3910 North Cedar Avenue location near the Valley Animal Center on Saturday, March 26th. Click here to download a flyer, and 15% of your purchase will be donated to the shelter when you present it at the counter.

We’ll end the campaign on April 9th at the Fashion Fair Mall Union Bank branch for our annual “Paw Party” taking place from 10 am to 1 pm. During that time, you can make any last change donations to the campaign, visit our Adorable Adoptable in M.A.R.C. (Our Mobile Adoption and Rescue Caboose), and enjoy refreshments provided by the Valley Animal Center.

National Be Kind to Animals Week (May 1-7, 2010) is dedicated to raising awareness about treating animals with kindness and respect. In conjunction with our 80th anniversary celebration and National Be Kind to Animals Week, the Animal Protective Foundation (Scotia, New York 12302) is presenting its 9th Annual Children’s Essay and Poster contest. This year’s special theme is “Celebrating 80 Years of Helping Animals.”

The contest is open to all students in 1st through 5th grade. It’s a wonderful opportunity to teach children about the importance of kindness and responsibility toward animals.

This is a special year at the APF. It’s our 80th anniversary! We’ve helped hundreds of thousands of animals over the years, so there’s a lot to celebrate. We’re asking you to either write an interesting essay or design an informative poster that highlights the great work the APF has done throughout the years and also encourages the community to adopt shelter pets. There is a lot of helpful information throughout this website. Be sure to be creative and persuasive.

The winners, along with their families, teachers and principals, will be invited to wonderful awards reception at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady on Monday, May 2.

Deadline for entries is April 9, 2011.

More info and entry form.
