From Butte Humane Society (Chico, California 95928)

With summer approaching, we can’t help but look forward to all the great things summer has to offer. I know I can barely wait for a few lazy indulgences! Personally, I relish a little “hammock time.” There is nothing like reading a good book in the shade of a big oak tree in Bidwell Park or by the pool in a nice comfy chair.

I hope you enjoy every minute of the summer season!  But before you get started, I need to ask for your help.

Here at Butte Humane Society, summer means a virtual flood of homeless animals. Because of uncontrolled and unplanned breeding in the winter and spring seasons, we find ourselves inundated with animals in need throughout the summer.

Our busiest time of year when it comes to the work to be done also tends to be our slowest time of the year for donations.  With summer vacation plans it is easy to forget about the spike in homeless animals needing care here at BHS. But, they are our number one concern. Hungry mouths must be fed. Injuries must be repaired. New homes must be found!

So, before you dive into a great summer, please give your “Summer Slump” gift today and help our community’s animals have a great summer too. Your life-saving support is gratefully appreciated.

On Saturday, June 4, 2011, the Washington Humane Society (Washington, DC 20012) will host its 24th annual Bark Ball at the Washington Hilton. As DC’s only black-tie gala for the four-on-the-floor crowd, the Bark Ball draws many of the area’s most illustrious residents and their canine companions. The guest list always includes leading figures from the political, media, entertainment, sports, and business worlds.

Tickets and tables are on sale now and may be purchased by visiting the Bark Ball web site.

The Bark Ball provides the opportunity to raise the funds necessary for WHS to continue to help and care for the most vulnerable members of the community – the homeless animals. The money raised enables WHS to provide much-needed support for the animals of DC through a variety of creative programs and services which help both the people and animals of the capital region and beyond.

All of the proceeds from the Bark Ball will go towards the critical programs and services of WHS. By attending this year’s event you will be making a difference in the lives of the most needy animals in Washington.

Come to the Bark Ball, enjoy the event, bid on fabulous auction items, and know that all of your money is going to a great cause. It’s the perfect night out in DC!

The Bark Ball is one the largest fundraisers for the Washington Humane Society and this year, the animals need your help more than ever.

Newly rescued farmed animals need a lot of attention and time to recover from their mistreatment. They need to be kept in a quiet, safe place, away from the other animals until they have fully recovered.

You can help make that happen by donating to Animal Place’s (Vacaville, California 95688) Raise the Roof campaign. Your contribution will go towards building not only an isolation barn but also public restroom facilities so that Animal Place can welcome both more rescued farmed animals AND the public to the sanctuary.
