About Microchipping

Only 22% of dogs and 1.8% of cats without microchips are ever reunited with their owner. BUT 52% of dogs and 38.5% of cats WITH microchips are successfully returned home. Help improve your changes of seeing your beloved four-legged family member again – get them microchipped today! (numbers based on a recent nationwide study).

Dog and cat microchipping is a simple procedure. One of Butte Humane Society’s wonderful staff members simply injects a microchip for pets, about the size of a grain of rice (12mm), beneath the surface of your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. The process is similar to a routine shot, takes only a few seconds, and your pet will not react any more than he or she would to a vaccination. No anesthetic is required.
