The Metro Detroit Pet Expo welcomes world-renowned dog trainer Victoria Stilwell, of Animal Planet’s “It’s Me or the Dog” November 20 at the Rock Financial Showplace. The new Metro Detroit Pet Expo, November 19-21, will offer pet lovers from across the region the opportunity to interact with adoptable animals and learn more about the responsibilities of pet ownership, training and heath care. There will also be hilarious pet contests, extreme pet makeovers as well as a large shopping area for fans of pets who run, jump, fly and swim! The Metro Detroit Pet Expo is a weekend filled with fun for the whole family! Event details.
Born and raised in Wimbledon, England, Victoria Stilwell is one of the world’s most recognized and respected dog trainers. She is best known for her role as the star of Animal Planet’s hit TV series, It’s Me or the Dog, through which she is able to share her insight and passion for positive reinforcement dog training— and also as a judge on CBS’s Greatest American Dog. By reaching audiences in over 40 countries, Stilwell helps counsel families on their pet problems.
With a particular fondness for rescue animals in need of behavior rehabilitation, Stilwell devotes much of her time and energy to a number of animal rescue organizations across the globe, serving as a behavior advisor and giving regular seminars on the subject of dog rescue, training and rehabilitation. She has also overseen the development of the world’s first global network of world-class positive reinforcement dog trainers: Victoria Stilwell Positively Dog Training (VSPDT).
Her two best-selling books, It’s Me or the Dog: How to Have the Perfect Pet and Fat Dog Slim: How to Have a Healthy, Happy Pet, have been widely praised, and they detail her core reward-based training philosophy: “There’s a better way to train – Positively.” Stilwell is a passionate advocate for positive reinforcement training methods that enhance a dog’s ability to learn while increasing confidence, resulting in a healthy, well-adjusted pet. She is a vocal opponent of punitive, dominance-based training techniques which often result in ‘quick fixes’ but ultimately cause more long-term harm than good while damaging the owner-dog relationship. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines and journals including The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, The Oprah Magazine, Rachael Ray Everyday, Shape, The Daily Mail, MSNBC.com, USA Today and The Sun. Victoria is a contributing columnist for The Bark, Dog World, American Dog and Dogs Today magazines.
Named 2009’s Dog Trainer of the Year at the Purina ProPlan Dog Awards, Victoria Stilwell is certified by the Animal Behavior and Training Associates and is a proud member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). She currently resides in Atlanta, GA with her husband, daughter and Chocolate Lab, Sadie. She will be appearing at the Metro Detroit Pet Expo on Saturday, November 20th and will be assisted by Victoria Stilwell Positively Dog Training member Shelli Kizner from Davisburg’s ClearMark Clicker Training.
The 2010 Metro Detroit Pet Expo will offer a wonderful opportunity for shelter animals from across the region to meet new prospective families, and give those in search of a new animal friend a chance to visit with rescued animals from a wide range of sources. Event partner Humane Society of Huron Valley, Humane Society of Livingston County, Homeward Bound Rescue League, and Rainbow Feathers Bird Club and Rescue are among the organizations being represented, as well as a wide range of breed specific rescues.
Fun and exciting exhibitions by Ultimate Air Dogs and Rock n Roll K9s will also be offered throughout the weekend, as well as a pet friendly shopping area, health tips and products and more!
